Sabahghi, Karen

I am a composer with experience in contemporary music, electronic music and also as a
Persian instrumentalist (Setar player).
I studied music composition at Tehran Art University (MA, 2008). In my final thesis I
composed five pieces for Soprano and orchestra as well as a piece for Baritone and ensemble.
A recording of the latter was issued on CD in Tehran in 2015.
Furthermore, I continued my studies in the University of Music and Performing Arts, Graz
Austria with Beat Furrer (2009 - 2014). During this period, numerous compositions of mine
were performed, including a piece for eight singers which was selected to be performed by
Scola Heidelberg in Musik Protokol festival (2013) along with a live broadcast on the
national radio.
Since 2019 I have been studying for a PhD in Composition at King’s College London. Until
now two of my compositions have been performed with the ensemble Lontano.
